17살 소녀 푸자는 자신이 원하는 남자를 얻기 위해 열심히 노력한다.
여기 17살 소녀, 푸자가 있다.
푸자는 의사 아빠, 교수 엄마의 사랑을 듬뿍 받고 자란 자존감 높은 선머슴 여자아이이다.
사촌 언니가 조건 좋은 대머리 남자와 결혼하려고 지참금도 듬뿍 얹어서 중매 혼을 한 것을 보고,
본인 남편은 스스로 구하기로 했다.
뭐, 생활 반경이 학교-집에 국한된 고등학생이다 보니 당연히 남편감은 학교에서 물색한다.
그래서 당첨된 이가 학급 친구, 야들리.
야들리도 의사의 아들이라 푸자처럼 아버지를 이어 의사가 될 것이고,
집안 수준도 비슷하고
외모도 괜찮고, 여자들에게 인기도 높아서
이리저리 따져보니, 남편감으로 만족스러웠다.
야들리도 푸자와 결혼에 긍정적이다. 베리 굳.

이 남자 어른이 나타나는 바람에 안 끝남.
기리는 아버지를 여의어서 엄마를 모셔야 하기 때문에 대학진학을 포기한 가난한 농부이다.
예전에 공산주의자였고, 정의감이 넘쳐서 오지랖도 많이 부린다. 시인이 되기를 포기한 엄마를 생각하며 엉엉 우는 마마보이이다.
여러모로 푸자에게 어울리는 남편감이 아니다.
됐고, 푸자가 기리에게 뿅 반해버렸다.
이제 푸자 눈엔 이상적인 남편감인 야들리는 보이지도 않음.
그런데 기리가 푸자에게 관심이 전혀 없다.
기리는 여자 친구가 얼마 전에 조건 좋은 대머리 남자와 중매 결혼해버린 상처 때문에
여자에게 마음을 굳게 닫았다.
상관없음... 푸자는 기리가 마냥 좋아서 기리 주위를 얼쩡거린다.
푸자는 결국 기리에게 거절당하고... ...
기리는 착한 남자라서 '귀찮게 얼쩡거리지마 짜증 나' 이런 식으로 거절하지 않는다.
'너와 내가 잘될 리가 없으니까 꿈 깨'라고 친절하게 설명해줬다.
푸자는 낙담했지만 좋아하는 마음은 맘대로 멈춰지지 않으므로,
짝사랑하는 마음을 품은 채 대도시에 있는 의과대학에 진학한다.
푸자는 친구들도 사귀고 남자 어른들과도 좋은 우정을 쌓는 등 여러 경험을 통해 많이 성장한다.
업그레이드된 푸자는 고향에 돌아가서 노련하게 기린을 낚는다.
밀고 당기기는 하지 않음. 푸자는 밀당할 줄 모르는 여자다. 당길 줄만 안다.
기리는 알게모르게 푸자에게 길들고 결국 잡힌 물고기가 된다.
(스포일러는 피해야 하지만, 로맨틱 코미디는 어차피 해피엔딩이고 주인공이 사랑을 이루는 과정이 중요한데, 기리가 어떻게 잡힌 물고기가 되는지는 설명안했으니 괜찮다.)

이 말라얄람어 영화는 어린 여자아이가 능동적으로 자신이 원하는 바를 정하고 노력하고 성취하는 이야기라서 재밌었다. 이 영화에서 여자주인공이 능동적 주체이고 남자는 그 대상이 된다. 이런 인도 영화는 흔하지 않은 듯.
⟪옴 샨티 오샤나⟫는 키다리아저씨의 역 버전 같다. ⟪키다리아저씨⟫는 부유한 성인 남자가 10대 여자애를 후원하고 도와서 좋은 여성으로 키워서 소유하는 이야기(?)인데, 이 영화는 소녀가 성장해서 능력을 키운 뒤 자신이 원하는 남자를 후원하고 도와서 쟁취하는 이야기이다. 잡힌 물고기 신세 기리를 보며 안타까워하지 않아도 됨. 자기 감정에 솔직한 직진형 인간인 푸자는 단순하고 좋은 사람이니까 기리와 잘 어울린다. 게다가 나지리야 나짐이 푸자를 매우 귀엽게 연기한다. 이 영화가 2014년 영화인데 나지리야 나짐이 94년 생이니 약 19살~20살 때 모습이다. (나지리야 나짐은 바로 전 작인 ⟪방갈로르 데이즈⟫에 니빈 폴리와 사촌 사이로 나온다. 나지리야 나짐은 그 영화에서 상대역인 파하드 파실과 2014년에 결혼했다)
가볍고 유쾌한 로맨틱 코미디라서, 우리나라에서도 인기 있을 내용인데 수입 안 할 거면 리메이크라도 했으면 좋겠다. 만약 한국에서 리메이크한다면, 가난한 농부 기리의 라이벌로 재벌집 아드님이 등장하고 푸자는 두 남자 사이에서 갈등하며 소극적인 태도로 징징거릴지도 모름..아, 안돼.

Here is a 17-year-old girl, Pooja.
She is a highly esteemed girl who grew up in love with a doctor father and a professor mother.
When her cousin had arranged marriage with a well-balanced bald man with a lot of dowry,
Pooja decided to find her husband by her own.
Well, she is a high school student so she searches a husband material in the school.
So the chosen one is her classmate, Yardley.
He is also the son of a doctor. Like Pooja, he will be a doctor after his father.
He has a similar family background as well as a good looking and a high popularity among girls.
He seems perfect for her.
Yardley is also positive for marrying Pooja. Very good.

Giri is a poor farmer who didn’t go to college because he had to take care of her mother after father had passed away.
He used to be a communist. He is so righteous as Dark Knight.
This mama boy once cried for mother giving up being a poet.
He is not a right material for Pooja in all respect.
It’s all right, Pooja falls for him very siriously.
Yardley with good condition? no more in her list. Only Giri, Giri, Giri.
However, Giri doesn’t have any kind of interest on her.
It’s not because she is young. After his girlfriend got arrange-married to a bald guy
He closed his heart to any woman.
Pooja doesn’t care… She hangs around him.
At last, Giri rejects her... ...
Giri is a good guy to say that they can’t be together
because they are very different in the social statues and etc.
Pooja, desappointed, goes to a medical college in a big city,
where she makes new friends and also good male friends and broadens her horizons.
Pooja, now upgraded to a grown-up, returns to her hometown to fish Giri.
She doesn’t play a push and pull game, though. She is a honest woman to her heart. She pulls Giri only.
Giri, without noticing, becomes her tamed fish.
(Sorry for spoiler, but romantic comedy has a happy ending anyway. And Pooja’s fishing process is the key of this movie,
which I won’t tell.)

I liked this Malayalam movie because the heroine is a young woman who actively settles down on what she wants and tries to accomplish it.
The heroine who leads the story is the active subject and male charactor is the object. It’s not common to see this kind of stroy in Indian cinemas.
I think ⟪Ohm Shanthi Oshaana⟫ is a reverse version of Daddy Long Legs. ⟪Daddy Long Legs⟫ is a story of a girl who sponcered by a wealthy older man. He coached her to be his ideal lady to marry her. ⟪Ohm Shanthi Oshaana⟫ is about a girl who help and tame an older man to marry her. You don’t have to be sorry of seeing Giri becoming a tamed fish. Pooja is a straightforward human being with a simple and good heart, so she is a good match to Giri, too. Plus, Nazriya Nazim played Pooja so cute and lovely. She was at Pooja's age, about 19~20 years old while making this movie. Before this movie, She was in ⟪Bangalore Days⟫ with Nivin Pauly too. They were cousins in the movie. Nivin Pauly, who usually plays a good neighbor boy, portraited a chic farmer well.
I hope this movie is imported to Korea because this kind of sweet romantic comedy is popular. Or it will be good to remake this movie into Korean TV drama. But if it happens, the TV drama must have a rich prince opposing the poor farmer Giri and Pooja will play games between two men.... Oh no.
